Outlaw Country Music
a.k.a. The Outlaw Movement

Just what in the Hell is Outlaw Country anyway?

Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings looking pretty fucked up! It's an elusive term if you ask me. Everything I've read about it when I look it up on the net doesn't give me the description I would for it. There is a lot of information out there about our Outlaw heroes such as Waylon, Willie, Hank Jr., David Allen Coe, and the many others who built it…but there isn't much about the genre itself. Therefore I decided to put up this site, dedicated to Outlaw Country and to hopefully redefine it since nobody else seems to give a shit.

First of all I disagree with the general thought that the Urban Cowboy movement was the end of Outlaw Country, I believe that was simply an extension of the Outlaw Movement and of course the height of its popularity.

Hank Williams Jr.I consider Outlaw Country those few brave artists who stuck their middle finger in the air towards the Nashville insiders and did things their way. I believe Hank Williams Sr. and Patsy Cline were the first and there are still a few Outlaws out there such as Travis Tritt and Montgomery & Gentry. The Outlaw influence is even resonating in the music of Kid Rock.

There are also many great Outlaw Country bands out there carrying on the torch that are very much unappreciated and with this website I hope to give them some exposure.

I also desire that this website helps you, the visitor, rediscover Outlaw Country Music. Maybe songs you've forgot about, or maybe you'll find something you've never heard. Growing up in the seventies and eighties, I have a fevering passion for this forgotten music and hope to help keep it alive, if only the memories of us kindred spirits who love it so.
