| Dear fellow artisan... i was shocked tonight during a late nite surfing expedition to find your page. I happened to be a bit of an outlaw fan myself. i dont know how much you really care but i'll tell you why. You see my daddy loved the old "black' country as we called it. the black days of nashville with hank and ernest tubb, etc. he added to it the pop countries of conway and so forth. i'd watch him in his shop singing along with all those songs and i could sing every one by heart. but as i grew i had to rebell and took off with rock and roll and it wasnt until years later i found what i was listening for. stationed at fort campbell in the us army, my buddy murphy and i got kicked out of a club and wandered around until we found ourselves on broadway. now if you have never seen it, i wont bother explaining it. we walked into Tootsies orchid lounge and a three piece band was shoved on a 8 by 5 foot stage ina backed smokie stinking cavern. they were inbetween a song and the picker was changing a string. we grabbed some beers and pushed into the crowd. the drum started beating and the guitar started some oddly familiar chords. this 26 year old tim mcgraw look alike began crooning out a perfect mimic of bob wills is still the king. outlaws kept us going in afghanistans cold mountain nights. and maintained spirits in deadly baghdad nights. its us. its alive. obvisouly its you. its tooties and, what we call the 'Honky Tonks' down on broadway in nashville, where you dont hear a lot of top 40 pop country. no sir, music real music, and the people pick most the songs with drunkin cheers of ramblin man, long haired redneck, and oh so many others. thank you for a little outlaw info and some good links. i have several presets now with live365, and in case you didnt know, amazon is chocked full of lps, cassetes, and cd's. but im sure you do. i'll leave you know with a quickie about a station back there in kentucky. its out of paducah 93.3. every friday and saturday nite from 11 to 3 is the outlaw hours where the faithful live, the relegion grows, and the movement breathes. thanks again, feel free to write back and tell me to leave you alone or what not. pvtmitchy@yahoo.com SGT DJ Mitchell, US Amry ...the road goes on forever |
